Cultivating New Farmland in the Sand Sea: LOVOL 260HP Tractor's Field Report from the Sahara

The LOVOL 260HP tractor supports Algeria's "Sahara Granary". Optimized for hot, dusty deserts, it pulls stone pickers to reclaim stony Gobi land. Its sealed air‑conditioned cab enables long comfortable shifts. Working with AgroLina, it accelerates land reclamation and improves wheat emergence. Deployed in 15 southern provinces, LOVOLmachinery turns desert wasteland into productive farmland and enhances regional food security.

Hot winds of the Sahara Desert sweep fine sand across the Gobi in southern Algeria. Exposed stones scorch under 40°C heat. On this land once deemed an "agricultural forbidden zone", the LOVOL 260HP tractor travels steadily pulling a stone picker, leaving neat stone-clearing tracks. It stands out as a remarkable industrial symbol advancing Algeria's "Sahara Granary" strategy.

In the Saharan provinces of southern Algeria, vast Gobi plots were historically unsuitable for large-scale farming due to abundant gravel of all sizes. Local farmers who sought to reclaim new farmland had to collect stones manually. This method suffered from extremely low efficiency; incomplete stone removal often hindered subsequent sowing, leaving massive potential arable land idle for years. As Algeria accelerates construction of the Sahara grain base, southern regions including Ouargla and Timimoun provinces plan to add extensive new farmland for the upcoming planting season. Traditional manual stone picking can no longer keep pace with large-scale land reclamation, creating an urgent local demand for high-power stone-clearing agricultural machinery adapted to extreme desert working conditions.

Against this backdrop, the LOVOL 260HP tractor has become the core workhorse for local land improvement operations. Tailored for the Sahara's unique operating environment featuring high temperatures, heavy dust and complex terrain, the model underwent multiple targeted optimizations before factory delivery. Special upgrades were applied to the engine air intake and cooling systems, enabling stable power output during prolonged full-load operation under persistent high temperatures without overheating shutdowns. Critical components including air filters and hydraulic systems feature enhanced sealing to effectively block fine desert sand ingress, drastically reducing component wear caused by dust and extending overall equipment service life. The ample 260 horsepower power reserve allows it to easily tow heavy-duty stone pickers and perform stable gravel collection at working depths ranging from 5 cm to 30 cm. It negotiates heavy sandy soil and Gobi terrain mixed with large boulders smoothly without getting stuck.

At reclamation sites across southern Algeria, working groups combining the Lovol 260HP tractor and stone picker complete stone clearing for nearly 6.67 hectares of land daily. Collected gravel is centrally stockpiled for construction of farm access roads afterwards, achieving efficient resource recycling. A farm manager from major local agribusiness AgroLina stated that after adopting this equipment package, their land reclamation speed rose sharply. Within just one planting season, cultivated area expanded from 800 hectares to 1,800 hectares. Stone-cleared plots meet flatness requirements for subsequent mechanized sowing, with wheat emergence rate nearly 20% higher than that of former fragmented fields.

Today, growing numbers of LOVOL 260HP tractors operate across the sand sea in 15 southern Algerian provinces undergoing agricultural electrification. These machines serve not only as core equipment for local agricultural mechanization upgrades but also carry the hope of transforming this land from Gobi wasteland into a high-yield granary. From labour-reliant traditional farming to full-process mechanized modern agriculture, Lovol agricultural machinery, backed by reliable quality and localized service, writes a vivid testimony of Chinese farm machinery supporting global food security amid the sands of the Sahara.

Quality as the Foundation, Service as the Priority – Weichai Lovol Builds a Reliable Promise in Africa
In early 2026, on a farm in Sri Lanka, a machine operator was enjoying the efficient performance of a Lovol combine harvester. Advanced rubber tracks combined with a 500‑working‑hour track warranty gave him peace of mind while farming. In Indonesia, a dealer had put more than 100 Lovol excavators into operation, and after more than a year of use, no major problems had appeared. In Mali, Mr. Oumar, a dealer who has worked with Weichai Lovol for ten years, summed up his experience succinctly: “The equipment is very reliable and highly efficient.”
